Kick the cold, immune boosting elixir

I wanted a tasty, healing, immune supporting drink that would combine a few superfoods already stocked in the pantry. With a toddler who catches colds as frequently as the wind blows, this immune boosting elixir is great to prevent or kick the cold you may already have.

Elixirs for colds are making their way on the menu's of many juice bars and health food stores these days and immune teas are abundant on the tea isle of the grocery store.

Why not have a cold fighting recipe on hand so you can whip up your own batch when needed?

My daughter loves this homemade cold elixir and I think it's pretty delicious myself.  It does combine some ingredients that seen funky when put together but the dominant taste is lemon, which is refreshing and tart.  I usually have 1 a day if I think I'm coming down with something and will go for 1-2 more rounds if feeling under the weather.

Why I chose my ingredients...

Lemon juice is ricn in vitamin C and antioxidants, helps to combat phlegm and may shorten the duration of a cold.

Honey has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties and helps to sooth a sore throat.

Garlic is comprised of the antioxidant allicin which is helpful to fight off colds and flus.

Turmeric is a great natural anti-inflammatory and is best absorbed by the body with black pepper.  It may help the body deal with a runny nose or cough as well as support wellness.

Ingredients

8 ounces of water

6 ounces of fresh squeezed lemon juice

1 tbsp raw organic honey

1 tbsp turmeric powder

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/2 garlic clove, minced

1, 16 ounce mason or glass jar with lid (optional)

Directions

1. In a sauce pan, add water and warm over low heat.

2. Add the remaining ingredients and stir till well combined, making sure honey dissolves into the solution.

3. Once the elixir is well combined, add to a mug, glass or jar.  Drink warm or cooled.

Enjoy!

Blessings...
