Lemony tips to detox your home & body

Lemons make me happy!   How lucky am I to have a dear friend with a lemon tree who is happy to share?

When she initially gave me bags of lemons I would just whip up a delicious batch of agave sweetened lemonade.  After the 3rd or 4th go round I thought,

"well, what else can I do with these here lemons?"

Thus began my exploration into the many uses of the lemon.

Since I am both a holistic healer and clean freak, I am happy to share  benefits for your health and your home.  Heal yourself naturally and avoid the harmful chemicals in many of our commercial cleaners. Here are a few of my fav tips:

  • CLEAN POTS AND PANS

There is an enzyme in the citric acid of lemon juice that cuts grease. Recipe for a good cleaner: combine the juice from two lemons with ½ cup of vinegar.

  • MAKE YOUR WHITES BRIGHT

When laundering, instead of bleach add ½ cup of lemon juice to the rinse cycle.

  • LIGHTEN DARK SPOTS

My grandmother always had pieces of lemon on her face to even out her skin tone.  You must be careful when applying a dab of juice on a dark spot because the citric acid in lemons can be very drying on the skin of the face.  Nevertheless, my grandma would rub it on her knees and elbows religiously.

  • SOOTHE A SORE THROAT

Add the juice of half a lemon to warm water or tea.  Properties of the juce will kill bacteria in the throat.  To help with cough add honey.

Happy Lemoning....
